Ventura Stolen Vehicle Pursuit – Police search for Suspect

Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release

On December 1 2017 at 3:09 PM, two Ventura Police officers were on patrol, when they spotted a stolen vehicle in the area of Brookshire Ave. and Woodland St. As the patrol vehicle began following the stolen vehicle and they entered an apartment complex in the 1300 Saratoga Ave., the driver began driving evasively in an attempt to elude officers. A pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued northbound on Saratoga Ave., then eastbound Telephone Rd. to northbound Johnson Dr. The driver continued on several streets surrounding the Government Center, then back onto Telephone Rd. As the pursuit turned and went northbound on Victoria Ave., the driver began driving at a higher rate of speed and erratically. Speeds reached approximately 45 mph, but the vehicle traffic was extremely heavy and at one point he drove over the center median and began driving on the wrong side of the road.

The pursuit was discontinued because of the danger it posed to the public.

A short time after discontinuing the pursuit, officers located the stolen vehicle abandoned in the 5900 block of Cloverly St. The driver had fled prior to officers arriving and was not located after a search of the area. During a search of the vehicle, stolen property from a recent residential burglary was found inside.

No one was injured as a result of this pursuit.

The investigation into identifying the suspect driver is continuing. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Ventura Police Department at 339-4416. An anonymous tip can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
