Veterans Day parade and ceremony, City of Oxnard holiday closures for Nov. 11, 2016

This year’s event will begin at 10 a.m. in front of Oxnard City Hall, 305 W. Third St., with a brief welcome by Mayor Tim Flynn, followed by the parade.

The parade will extend down Third Street to B Street before ending at Plaza Park at approximately 11 a.m. Featured parade participants include the American Legion Riders Post 48, Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast, Oxnard Cub Scouts Pack 3251 and the Oxnard High School Air Force Junior ROTC.

The following streets will be closed from 9-11 a.m. for the parade:

  • Third Street from A to C streets
  • Fourth Street from A to C streets
  • B Street from Third to Fifth streets
  • North Fifth Street from B to C streets

At 11:11 a.m., the ceremony will begin promptly at Plaza Park, 500 S. C St. This year’s special guest speaker is former U.S. Navy Lt. j.g. Raymond Orozco.

All county public transit operators including Gold Coast Transit District (GCTD),, and the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC),, will provide free bus rides on Nov. 11, to U.S. veterans who present valid military identification upon boarding. Valid identification includes veterans identification cards issued by the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs and the veterans designation listed on licenses/identification cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. GCTD and VCTC buses will operate on their regular schedules during the holiday.

Starting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 11, the U.S. Navy Band Commodores will perform a free jazz concert at the Oxnard Performing Arts and Convention Center, 800 Hobson Way. The concert is sponsored by the Oxnard Ambassadors. For more information, visit

City of Oxnard holiday closures and reminders

Residents and businesses are reminded that City Hall and many City departments will be closed Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, for Veterans Day.

Police and Fire department personnel will be on duty to provide patrol, fire, paramedic and other emergency services for the holiday. For life-threatening emergencies, always call 9-1-1. “If You See Something, Say Something” by calling the Oxnard Police Department at (805) 385-7740 for non-emergencies. Residents are reminded that Spanish translators are available, and callers can report a crime or suspicious activity anonymously.

The Oxnard City Council will not meet on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016.

The customer call center for the Public Works Department will be closed Nov. 11 for the holiday, but utility customers can pay their bills online at or by phone at (805) 385-7816.
