What’s Worse Than Monsanto? Bayer-Monsanto

Editorial

“Bayer successfully completed the acquisition of Monsanto on Thursday [June 7, 2018].Shares in the U.S. company will no longer be traded on the New York Stock Exchange, with Bayer now the sole owner of Monsanto Company….” https://monsanto.com/news-releases/bayer-closes-monsanto-acquisition/

Regarding the Bayer acquisition, the Washington Post said: “This is the end of Monsanto as the world has long known it.  New owner Bayer announced Monday that it will nix the brand name as soon as August, when its $66 billion acquisition of Monsanto is expected to be complete.  “The merger, approved by the Justice Department…will create the largest seed and agrochemical company on Earth, uniting Bayer’s pesticide business with Monsanto’s genetically modified crop portfolio…the overuse of pesticides, such as the ones Monsanto markets with its GM crops, has contributed to environmental damage and herbicide resistance…”

It now depends on whether they can work out the complexities to make it final.

But I would like to address Jon Rappoport’s article on July 24, 2014 in citizensjournal.us.  http://citizensjournal.us/monsantofda-two-crime-families-trillion-dollar-hustle/
He clearly and concisely describes the horrific background and practices of Monsanto and the disturbing acceptance of GMO’s in our Country even though that was written back in 2014.

The simple truth is, the very first commercial sale of GMO’s was only twenty years ago. There has not been enough tests on a large enough population, over a long enough period of time, to prove with absolute certainty that they are harmless.

If European Countries and Russia have banned them, why in Heaven’s name are we still not only producing them but consuming them in the U.S.? And, what, pray tell, will that do to our export of crops? None of the EU countries will want to buy our produce. See:

“ Russian scientists recommended at least a 10 year ban.” https://www.ecowatch.com/its-official-19-european-countries-say-no-to-gmos-188210643

Four or five years ago a movie made by Monsanto aired on PBS. In it a Monsanto employee was bragging that Monsanto is not just modifying the genetics of plants and animals, routinely done by cross pollination or cross breeding. Monsanto is actually SPLITTING the DNA, adding bacteria and viruses making plants and animals more resistant to disease and pesticides. The side benefit is humans who ingest them, become less susceptible themselves. (My Son and I watched that movie. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a link.)

Personally I like a comment that said humans don’t normally mate with a carrot and exchange genes, which is what GMO’s allow us to do.

You can go online and find a lot of Monsanto statements lauding their company but here are some true facts about Monsanto:
Arthur Neslen On Assignment For HuffPost said: “…The hookup will confine 61 percent of global seeds and pesticides production in the hands of just three megacorporations….
“‘We will witness in our lifetimes the total disappearance of biodiversity from our farms, the disappearance of small farmers, and the end of real food and our food freedom’, Vandana Shiva, the veteran seeds campaigner, has previously warned.” https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/monsanto-bayer-merge_us_5afeef96e4b..

Monsanto refuses to let farmers save seeds for next years planting plus the seeds they sell farmers are resistant to the controversial Roundup. Monsanto can and has sued farmers for not using Roundup on their crops, thus forcing farmers to use chemicals. https://modernfarmer.com/2014/03/monsantos-good-bad-pr-problem/

Business Insider said: “If you look at how much of the farmers’ seed and pesticide dollars are going to these companies, Monsanto-Bayer — if it were one company today — would be getting $1 out of every $3,” Connelly says. “Dow-Dupont would be taking one out of every $4. Think that’s a problem?…” http://www.businessinsider.com/bayer-monsanto-merger-has-farmers-worried-2018-4

MONSANTO HISTORY
“Founded in 1901 the company’s first product is chemical saccharin, sold to Coca-Cola as an artificial sweetener….Even then, the government knew saccharin was poisonous and sued to stop its manufacture but lost in court….
“The 1920’s introduced…The world’s center of PCB manufacturing [MO]…which has the highest rate of fetal death and immature births in the state…
“…creating pesticides for agriculture containing deadly dioxin, which poisons the food and water supplies
“1960s: Monsanto, along with chemical partner-in-crime DOW Chemical, produces dioxin-laced Agent Orange for use in the U.S.’s Vietnam invasion….Vietnamese civilians dead…babies born with birth defects and thousands of U.S. military veterans suffering or dying from its effects to this day!…internal memos show Monsanto lied about the findingsresearch…
“1990’s …Monsanto is sued for giving radioactive iron to 829 pregnant women for a study to see what would happen to them…
“…You’d think the company would be so proud of their GMO foods that they’d serve them to their employees, but they don’t….” See link:

Back in 2001 Monsanto already owned 91% of GMO crops worldwide. I could not find out what they own today. And, remember President Obama promising to label GMO’s? Instead he appointed key figures of biotech companies as head of FDA and USDA. See link:
http://www.seattleorganicrestaurants.com/vegan-whole-foods/dark-history-monsanto/
“…McKay Jenkins…spent years researching GMOs…’ In his new book, “Food Fight: GMOs and the Future of the American Diet,” Jenkins makes the case…same problem with big agriculture we do with big energy. Power has become so centralized that policy supports these companies…almost regardless of the industry, that they want all regulation to be centered in Washington…at the federal level where they can actually control….” https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/20

A frightening thought: If big corporations get much more control, eventually they can dictate what type of food is produced, how it is produced, how much it costs, where it is distributed and who gets what. We will no longer have any say in how much or what we eat! https://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/news/five-things-monsanto-doesnt-want-you-know-about-gmos

BAYER HISTORY:
“…After 1978 Bayer and other pharmaceutical companies produced Factor VIII and IX. “The product was designed for hemophiliacs….but Bayer and other companies failed to
enact strict prerequisites for blood farming. As a result, thousands of hemophiliacs died from the HIV- tainted blood plasma…
“…In the 1990’s….The Justice Department found Bayer guilty of overstating average wholesale pharmaceutical prices…for more than 7 years…forced to reimburse….
“The Coalition Against BAYER Dangers…the dangers of Yaz…demands a ban on all contraceptive pills…Bayer’s oral contraceptives still remain some of the most popular among consumers…..
“…when asked how many lawsuits are currently pending against Bayer the answer from representatives was, “about 10,200.” https://www.i-lawsuit.com/the-dark-history-of-bayer-drugs/

Those large companies want and are gaining control of food production. This current merger brings us closer to a monopoly in agriculture, will give those companies access to farmer data, will squeeze out small farmers, and probably raise food prices for consumers. They have spent tons of dollars to fight labeling. Labeling was invented so we know what’s in a product. They want to take and keep that right away from us. I want a choice in my family’s, food and health.

How about you?
