VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Idee Lee Scholz (DOB 3/16/62), of Simi Valley, pled guilty to one count of second-degree murder for the killing of Janice Richardson of Simi Valley.
During the early morning hours of January 23, 2009, Scholz and co-defendant Glenn Sires entered Ms. Richardson’s home to steal items related to narcotics sales and identity theft. During the burglary, an altercation ensued, and Scholz and Sires smothered Ms. Richardson to death. They staged the crime scene to look like a drug overdose. In March 2009, the Simi Valley Police Department received information that Ms. Richardson had been murdered. A subsequent investigation determined that both Scholz and Sires were responsible for Ms. Richardson’s death.
Scholz will be sentenced on June 12, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 26 of the Ventura Superior Court, County of Ventura. Scholz faces a sentence of 15 years to life in prison. Sires was previously found guilty by jury of one count of second-degree murder in September 2018. He was sentenced to a term of 15 years to life in prison.
