    YOUNG ARTISTS ENSEMBLE Holds Auditions For The Wizard of Oz

    Young Artists Ensemble holds auditions for THE WIZARD OF OZ directed by Amber Hutchison with Music Direction by Zachary Spencer and Choreography by Kate Peltola. Auditions are held Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6 by appointment only at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 West Hillcrest Drive. Time slots begin at 9:45 am on Saturday and 9:00 am on Sunday. Auditions are open to performers age 10-19, with younger performers ages 7-9 who may audition only for Munchkin roles and only at the 9:45 am slot on Saturday, December 5. Actors are requested to prepare a one-minute song with sheet music and wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in. An accompanist will be provided and recorded music is not permitted. Each audition will last two hours and fifteen minutes and may include improvisation, cold reading, and dance. Call backs will be held on Monday, December 7 from 5:00 to 10:00pm. Participants under 10 will not be kept past 8:00pm. Performances are February 5 – 21, 2016, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. There will be four performances with the addition of actors with special needs on one additional weekend, February 26-28, 2016.

    All participants must be at least 10 years old and not yet 20 years old by February 28, 2016, except those in the 7 – 9 age group. Character descriptions and all other information is available on the YAE web site. Rehearsals are Mondays 5:30 – 7:30 pm, Wednesdays from 5:30 – 8:30pm and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm beginning Saturday, December 12, 2015. All cast and parents must attend a mandatory welcome meeting on Wednesday, December 9 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. If cast, there is a $180 participation fee. Financial Assistance is available.     Lions, and Tigers, and Bears! Oh My!Go over the rainbow to follow the yellow brick road with Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. It takes an epic adventure and fleeing from a wicked witch for young Dorothy Gale to learn that there’s no place like home. The Wizard of Oz is also a part of the award-winning Conejo Theatre For Everyone, teaming up YAE kids and performers with special needs for a unique theatrical experience.

    THE WIZARD OF OZ is the second production in Young Artists Ensemble’s 35th Annual Family Theatre Season. The season will continue conclude with ANNE OF GREEN GABLES May 6-22, 2016. Mini-Season tickets for both shows are $26 for adults and $22 for children, students and seniors (a 25% savings). Individual show tickets are $19 for adults and $16 for children, students and seniors.

    Young Artists Ensemble recently received 24 nominations and six wins for their 2014 Summer Teen Production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Winners in the Tenth Annual National Youth Arts Awards included Outstanding Production: Jesus Christ Superstar, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical: Jordan M. Schneider as Jesus of Nazareth, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical: Kyra Stevens as Mary Magdalene, Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Lighting Design: Ken Milbrett and Outstanding Youth Orchestra.
