Educator Steven Stocks
will be speaking on the topic
“Reminiscences of a Coast Guard Sailor during WWII in the Pacific”
at the Port Hueneme Historical Society Museum 220 Market Street
on February 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
Steven Stocks, who graduated from Compton High School, joined the United States Coast Guard in 1943 at 17 years of age. He served twelve deployments to the Pacific War Zones. During that time, he was a 3rd Class Petty Officer, RDM (Radarman) on the USS General Robert L. Howze, AP134.
After earning a BS, an MS and MA from USC, Steve was employed by the Oxnard Union High School District 1952-1988 as a science teacher, Vice-Principal (Hueneme High School), Principal (Channel Islands High School), Principal (Oxnard High School), and Assistant Superintendent (Oxnard Union High School District).
After 36 years, Stocks retired for the first time in June of 1988. By November, though, he was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Oxnard Union High School District and in that capacity, he served as President for 5 years, Vice-President for 4 years and Member for 15 years. He retired for the second time in 2010, at the age of 85, with an impressive total of 60 years of dedicated service.
