Oxnard, CA – Oxnard, CA – A record crowd attended the 5th annual Chowderfest on Sunday, August 4, to support the Channel Islands Maritime Museum. Guests enjoyed tastings of chowder, side dishes, and desserts from 17 restaurants and wine tastings from Panaro Brothers Winery, Pantess, Plan B, and Strey Cellars. Kelly’s Lot & Friends entertained the crowd with live blues music.
Each year Chowderfest restaurants compete for the honor of “best chowder.” This year, three local judges voted Salt Waterside Bistro as the winner with Moore’s Seafood in 2nd place and Spencer Makenzie’s in 3rd place. The “People’s Choice” award for best seafood chowder went to Moore’s Seafood, and 2nd place went to the Embassy Suites at Mandalay Bay. In speaking about Chowderfest, CIMM Board Member and Chowderfest organizer, Michelle Murphy said, “Not only is Chowderfest a wonderfully entertaining and tasty community event but very importantly it also benefits museum programs and exhibits at the Maritime Museum, which shares its collection of 500 years of maritime art with the entire community.”
