Daniel Lee Luna (DOB 10/09/77), of Ventura, was sentenced by Judge Anthony J. Sabo to 75 years 4 months in state prison for multiple sex crimes. On August 5, 2019, a jury convicted Luna of eight counts of forcible rape, three counts of oral copulation of a person under 16, one count of sexual penetration of a person under 16, and one count of lewd act upon a child. The jury further found true the special allegation that the victim was a minor who was 14 years of age or older at the time of the forcible rape offenses.
The crimes occurred during 2018. On several occasions Luna took the victim to his apartment, plied the victim with either marijuana or alcohol, and used a power drill to secure the door shut with a drywall screw before committing these crimes. This case was investigated by the Ventura Police Department and prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Sexual Assault and Family Protection Unit.
