Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
Thousand Oaks Police Investigators are happy to announce that Miles, the eight-year-old stolen golden retriever, has been safely returned to his family.
On January 28, 2021, at about 2:45 pm., a deputy responded to a home in Newbury Park for a call for service. The victim reported he had been allowing his friend, Trina Calderon, to stay at his home while she searched for more permanent housing. On January 27, 2021, the victim returned home and noticed Calderon and Miles were gone, along with Calderon’s vehicle. The victim was not initially concerned because Calderon had taken Miles on long walks and outings, always to return. However, when Calderon was not back the following day, the victim reported Miles had been stolen. Miles’ owner and friends took to social media to alert others that Miles had been taken and identified Calderon as the person responsible.
Thousand Oaks Police Detectives received the case on January 29, 2021, and began to actively investigate the grand theft. On February 1, 2021, detectives developed leads and were ultimately able to locate Calderon and Miles at the Mulholland Dog Park, in Los Angeles County. Calderon was taken into custody without incident and Miles was given a ride back to the police station where he was quickly reunited with his overjoyed family.
Calderon was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on one felony count of 487e PC – Grand
Theft of a Dog. Calderon is currently in custody with a bail of $10,000.00 and is scheduled for arraignment on February 3, 2021.
