About this event
Mothers do their best to raise their children, just as the female monarch butterfly does their best to find the optimal milkweed for their children.
Not sure what to get your mother this Mother’s Day? We have an idea. Why not create a unique bouquet using natural materials? Or instead of tulips how about gifting your mother milkweed?
Milkweed is vital to the survival of our declining monarch butterfly population.
Meet us at the Santa Monica Mountains Visitor Center at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas on Saturday, May 7th for a family-friendly event celebrating monarch butterflies and mothers, where you’ll learn how to create a Mother’s Day bouquet and help the monarch population!
Each registered participant will get to:
– Make one small arrangement using locally grown native plant materials, perfect as a small Mother’s Day gift!
– Understand the unique relationship between local monarch butterflies and local native milkweed
– Learn how to sow narrowleaf milkweed seed and transplant milkweed seedlings into the ground
– Take home live milkweed plants or seed for use as a small gift or in their own garden!
No previous crafting experience is needed, and samples will be on display to inspire you.
The number of participants is limited, so please be sure to register for ONE of the workshops.
We will meet in the courtyard with the blue umbrellas.
Wear a hat for sun protection, sunscreen and bring water and gardening gloves.
