Please join us at our Nov 2016 Plant Tour, on Wednesday the 9th

Skyworks Solutions, Inc. – An Innovator of High Performance Analog Semiconductors

Skyworks is empowering the wireless networking revolution. Its highly innovative analog semiconductors are connecting people, places and things across a number of new and previously unimagined applications within the automotive, broadband, cellular infrastructure, connected home, industrial, medical, military, smartphone, tablet and wearable markets.

Skyworks is a global company with engineering, marketing, operations, sales and support facilities located throughout Asia, Europe and North America and is a member of the S&P 500® and Nasdaq-100® market indices (NASDAQ: SWKS). Skyworks’ Newbury Park facility has been operational since 1985 and has been producing high volume GaAs power amplifiers since 1997.

In order to optimize manufacturing operations at Skyworks, multiple systems have to be implemented and integrated to maximize efficiency. Whether it’s the planning systems that send the demand signals to the factory, or the manufacturing execution system that allows the operators to know where the WIP is at all times, ensuring that these systems work properly is what allows the Newbury Park site to be a leader in the GaAs semiconductor business. Skyworks has developed these systems internally, as well as deployed industry-wide solutions. The culture of continuous improvement allows us to stay in a leadership position. All of these systems enable us to meet our key performance indicators of reduced wafer costs, maximum output, increasing yields, and minimum cycle times with customer quality.

Shiban Tiku will present the basics of GaAs power amplifiers and the manufacturing process

Ph.D. in Materials Science from USC, Los Angeles, CA

Shiban Tiku has practically grown up with the GaAs industry. He started work in GaAs ICs at Texas Instruments in Dallas. He was also with Rockwell Semiconductor in a division that was spun off to Conexant, then merged with Alpha Industries to create Skyworks. He has over 20 years of experience in process development, process engineering and yield engineering covering areas of design, layout, wafer fabrication and back end processing. Tiku’s work has contributed to Skyworks’ success as a leading company in GaAs IC and modules. He has also worked on epi growth, ion implantation, thin film deposition, processing of FET and HBT type devices and piezoelectric devices for flat panel displays.

Tiku is currently in charge of new process/product introduction at Skyworks’ Newbury Park facility. He has served on the CS MANTECH technical committee for over ten years, and is now on the executive committee as University Liaison. He has published numerous papers and is the author or co-author of 15 patents. He enjoys training new engineers and improving process controls.

Harim Garcia will present the manufacturing systems used for factory management

MBA in Operations and Supply Chain Management, SNHU, Manchester, NH

Harim Garcia is a senior industrial engineer who has worked at Skyworks’ Mexicali assembly plant and Woburn GaAs manufacturing facility prior to moving to Newbury Park. He has had factory floor knowledge and also SCM and planning experience. He is currently involved in coordinating cost reduction efforts and planning factory operations goals for the planned wafer starts signal received from Master Scheduling and Production Control. Garcia is skilled in extracting factory performance data to track performance against the goals and identify areas of improvement.
