On Monday, November 21, 2016, at about 9:58 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of Gonzales Road and Williams Drive after receiving a call of an injury collision involving two vehicles. When officers arrived, they found that a white, Honda CRV had struck a blue, Ford Ranger and a tree.
The driver of the Honda CRV, 63 year old Oxnard resident, Jan Thompson, sustained major injuries and was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) where she is listed in critical condition. A passenger in the Honda CRV, 91 year old Oxnard resident, Toni Thompson, sustained major injuries and was also transported to VCMC where she is also listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford Ranger, 57 year old Oxnard resident, Jesus Cardenas, sustained minor injuries and was released from the scene after being evaluated by EMS personnel.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda was traveling westbound on Gonzales Road towards Williams Drive and rear-ended the Ford that was stopped at a red light at Williams Drive. After colliding with the Ford, the Honda then drove onto the sidewalk where it collided with a tree.
