On February 6, 2021, deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office contacted and arrested Richard Barajas from Ventura and arrested him for possession for sales of narcotics and possession of an unregistered firearm.
On February 6, 2021, deputies assigned to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and Sheriff’s Gang Unit were conducting directed enforcement using grant funds from Department of Homeland Security Operation Stonegarden. The directed enforcement focuses on proactive narcotics enforcement throughout Ventura County.
At approximately 12:01 AM, deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop of a vehicle driven by Barajas. Deputies determined Barajas was on active Ventura County probation for driving under the influence. During a search of Barajas’ vehicle, deputies located various quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, Alprazolam pills and evidence indicative of narcotics sales. Deputies also located a loaded unregistered firearm in the vehicle within reach of Barajas.
Based on the investigation, Barajas was arrested for various narcotics sales and illegal firearm possession charges. Barajas was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and is awaiting court proceedings.
On February 9, 2021, detectives obtained a search warrant for Barajas’ residence located in the 6000 Block of Hummingbird Street in Ventura. Detectives served the warrant and seized additional narcotics and ammunition.
On February 9, 2021, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed several felony charges on Barajas related to this investigation. Barajas remains in custody and his bail is set at $100,000.
