Americans who value the Constitution and the 1st Amendment (Bill of Rights) which establishes: “the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assembly, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” should condemn the Nov. 19th attack on the Hong Kong Epoch Times printing press.
Four masked intruders invaded the facility in the Mong Kog area early in the morning and set on fire two print machines, four rolls of printing papers, and several stacks of newspapers in the factory—the fourth attack on the Hong Kong Epoch Times print shop and warehouse since February 2006.
The Epoch Times’ coverage of the Hong Kong protests has stood out. For instance, after the Hong Kong police laid siege to the Chinese University of Hong Kong campus, six Hong Kong newspapers on Nov. 12 ran front-page ads echoing Beijing’s rhetoric attacking the protesters. Only The Epoch Times and Apple Daily covered this escalation of police tactics on their front pages.
Hong Kong Epoch Times President Guo Jun said: “We are urgently repairing the printing factory. We are sure that we will be able to publish successfully tomorrow. Thank you for your support!”
Hong Kong citizens need to be supported whether by American media; by our President and elected officials; by American corporations and our sports leagues (especially the National Basketball Association).
The Epoch Times was founded in the United States in the year 2000 in response to communist repression and censorship in China. The Epoch Times’ media network currently covers 21 languages and 33 countries.
The Epoch Times (in it’s promotional piece) is “seeking the truth through insightful and independent journalism”…and wishes to “report respectfully, compassionately, and rigorously”…while pursuing the media’s “responsibility to uphold a moral society.”
