As the weather has warmed up and restrictions lifted, the Ojai Police Department has seen an increase in bicycle thefts, many being stolen after being left unsecured. Ojai is known as a bike friendly community with many residents and tourists utilizing bikes to get around town and enjoy the city.Â
The Ojai Police Department would like to remind citizens and visitors to lock their bikes. When storing any bicycle at a residence, try to keep it locked indoors. If outdoors, utilize a quality lock and secure the bike to a fixed location. Being a bike friendly community, the city of Ojai has bike racks installed throughout the downtown area and many businesses offer the same type of storage. In addition to locking your bike, document the bicycle serial number which is commonly printed or stamped underneath the pedal assembly. Also, take a quality picture of your bike. Having the ability to provide a serial number and description, should a theft occur, makes it easier for the Ojai Police Department to identify and recover your bike.Â
As always, enjoy the Ojai Valley and get outside. Remember to follow the rules of the road and wear safety equipment. Biking is a great way to spend time with family, friends, and get some great exercise.Â
