Leading developer of affordable housing will host virtual event with inspirational speaker for 2021 grads
In partnership with national nonprofit NeighborWorks, Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (Cabrillo EDC) will be hosting a special celebration for 2021 graduates of all ages during NeighborWorks week.
Since its inception in 1983, NeighborWorks Week showcases how the NeighborWorks network strengthens communities and celebrates their collective impact as a network, while this year’s theme aims to reflect on the power of unity and resilience. Through this event, Cabrillo EDC recognizes the united community effort needed to support online learning, from hardworking students and teachers, homework clubs, and more.
The virtual evening celebration will be held on June 10th at 6 p.m. via Zoom, and will include Inspirational Speaker and Community Leader Professor & Sargent Juan Ponce from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Juan Ponce, M.P.P.A., is a native of Ventura County with over 26 years of experience as a Peace Officer and has worked a variety of assignments. He has 7 years of teaching experience as an Adjunct Professor for Union Institute and University where he taught a variety of classes for the Criminal Justice Bachelor’s Program, and currently teaches as an Adjunct Professor at his alma mater, California Lutheran University.
Past recipients of Cabrillo EDC’s Rodney Fernandez Leadership Fund Scholarship are also invited to attend and share how the scholarship has helped support them in their educational goals.
“We are so excited to do something special for all of the graduates this year, said Marci Ramos-Cruz, Resident and Community Services Manager at Cabrillo EDC. “In lieu of any big in-person ceremonies this year, we are thrilled to give graduates the opportunity to celebrate and share their accomplishments and future plans with the community.”
