Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On May 7, 2021, detectives from the East County Major Crimes/Sexual Assault Unit with assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Probation Office and Southern California High Technology Task Force (SCHTTF) concluded a week long investigation by arresting Joseph Casas for possession of child pornography.
On April 29, 2021, detectives received information from a Ventura County organization regarding possible illegal activity by someone connected to the organization. Recently alerted that Joseph Casas had been arrested for possession/distribution of child pornography, the organization had begun an internal investigation into whether Casas was illegally downloading child pornography material and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered Casas was currently out on bail on a pending case in Los Angeles County for a prior arrest for possession/distribution of child pornography.
On May 7, 2021, detectives executed a search warrant for electronic devices at Casas’ residence, located in the 4000 block of Deborah Street in the city of Simi Valley. SCHTTF investigators recovered evidence showing Casas had been actively downloading child pornography material. Casas was arrested during the search warrant service and booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility and his bail was set at $350,000. Casas was arrested for violation of Penal Code Section 311.11(a) PC – Possession or control of matter depicting minor engaging in or simulating sexual conduct.
