Ventura, Calif. – The City of Ventura is proud to announce the completion of the Montalvo Safe Routes to School Project and will be hosting a ribbon-cutting event on Tuesday, November 7, with attendance by key stakeholders and dignitaries, including Ventura Unified School District officials, City of Ventura staff, and Council members.
The Montalvo Safe Routes to School Project has been a collaborative effort and represents a substantial investment in our community’s infrastructure, designed to make travel to and from Montalvo Elementary School safer and more convenient for students and families.
The project created over two miles of continuous sidewalk, one mile of new bike lanes, 12 new curb ramps, 26 reconstruction of curb ramps, 27 new pedestrian and bicycle crossings, and new landmark signage for the Montalvo neighborhood.
The project was partially funded by a Caltrans grant totaling $1.38 million and is part of a statewide program called Safe Routes to School. Ventura has previously used similar grants to help fund pedestrian improvements in West Ventura and near Anacapa Middle School on Telegraph Road. The City of Ventura also contributed an additional $1 million through Measure O and gas tax to deliver the full completion of the project.
