On the above date and time Ventura City Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at Balboa Middle School. The First arriving engine company discovered a classroom at the rear of the school heavily involved in fire. Firefighters protected adjoining classrooms while suppressing the main body of the fire. The fire was held to the classroom of origin with two additional classrooms suffering heavy smoke damage. The fire was completely extinguished 40 minutes after the initial 911 call was made.
The cause of the fire is suspicious in nature and remains under investigation by Ventura City Fire. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Was it Mound School or Balboa JHS? Or was it both and do we have a firebug running around loose in the east end?
Well, despite having my posting reviewed and approved, I don’t see a correction to the article. There was a major response to the fire. Thirty-two personnel and four agencies, six fire companies together with four administrative personnel.
So the question remains: Was it Balboa Junior High School, Mound Primary School or both? In my view, there is a huge difference between a fire at one site and a fire in two sites close together in time.
