Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) in Ventura began a graduate medical program 7 years ago with several programs. Last night was the General Surgery Resident ceremony at the Crowne Plaza.
The Residency is a training program in which every year, the duties and responsibilities increase until you reach the pinnacle of chief resident. The General Surgery Residency is 5 year long program and admits 3 Residents per year.
The evening’s event was kicked off by the program Director, Javier Romero, MD. Dr Romero is also a Trauma surgeon at Ventura County Medical Center. He described how the program has incrementally improved over it’s 7 year existence. This is the 4th Chief Resident graduation in the history of the program. Dr Romero is assisted by the co-program Director, Dr. Steen.
Dr. Steen praised the Chief residents’ talent in the operating room as well as their teaching skills for the junior residents via a video message.
Dr Lisa Babashoff complemented the entire surgery program for their superior efforts over the last year. She presented the award to the Intern of the year. The award went to Dr. Shay Pradhan.
Dr Helmuth Billy presented a lighthearted presentation about the energetic and enthusiastic resident of the year. This year’s award went to Dr Masoud Chopan. Both of these awards were voted on by the attending surgeons based on performance, attitude and overall competence.
Dr Karim Jreije and Dr Garrett Jones were the honorees this evening for completing the 5-year program. They both received certificates for competency in robotic surgery this evening in addition to their diploma from the program. They Officially complete their training at the end of the month.
After graduation, Dr Karim Jreije (left) has accepted a position at Anacapa Surgical Associates in Ventura as a General Surgeon. He will reside in the area with his wife and two children.
Dr Garrett Jones (right) has been accepted into a fellowship in cosmetic surgery. The one-year fellowship is located in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He plans to practice cosmetic surgery in Miami Florida.
