CAMARILLO, CA – Studio Channel Islands Arts Center (SCI), a non-profit dedicated to bringing together art, artists and community, has announced this year’s Collector’s Choice exhibition will be juried by renowned curator and author Jo Lauria. The annual Collector’s Choice exhibition presents a wide range of styles and mediums including photography, painting, sculpture, fiber and assemblage works by exciting emerging artists, as well as work by nationally exhibited and award-winning artists. The exhibition kicks off with a Facebook Live opening reception, 1 p.m., March 6, at the SCI Blackboard Gallery, 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo, where all are invited to view more than 100 works from artists around the country.
The exhibition will open online on March 9 with an interactive virtual tour. The gallery will have limited opening to the public during March, see website for details, and will be fully open to the public as COVID-19 health restrictions are lifted.
Lauria is a specialist in the field of craft, design and decorative arts. She was a curator at LACMA and has subsequently organized many national museum and touring exhibitions and has authored more than 16 major publications. She will give a talk on April 17 at 1 pm to discuss how she selected the works for the show, how people build private collections of art and craft and how to live among rare and precious objects.
“The Collector’s Choice exhibit concludes with a unique interactive fundraising event where each ticket holder is guaranteed the opportunity to select one of the artworks to take home,” said SCI Board President Daniel Bednar.
