On June 25, 2023, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the 2200 block of Sierra Way, in the City of Oxnard, regarding an assault with a firearm. Officers learned that a vehicle occupied by four subjects was parked in the area when they were confronted by the driver of a grey Jeep Liberty. The driver of the Jeep exited armed with a handgun and fired several shots at the occupied vehicle. The victim’s vehicle was struck by gunfire. The victims fled the scene in their vehicle, colliding with a parked vehicle and a fire hydrant, and were contacted by police officers several blocks away. The occupants of the victim’s vehicle were uninjured. Officers located video surveillance of the incident as well as several spent shell casings.
Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. After a lengthy investigation, and the service of several search warrants, investigators identified Andres Aguilar, who is a documented Oxnard criminal street gang member, as the suspect.
On November 2, 2023 members from the Violent Crimes Unit and Oxnard Police K9 Unit located Aguilar in the 2300 block of East Vineyard Ave where he was taken into custody without incident. Aguilar was arrested for four counts of assault with a firearm and shooting at an occupied vehicle. Aguilar is being held at Ventura County Jail. His bail was set at $1,000,000.
