The Art and Architecture of Cal State Channel Islands | Jan. 10, 2018 | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Join Studio Channel Islands for a guided tour of the Art and Architecture of Cal State Channel Islands campus with John Gormley, campus architect and director of planning, design and construction, Jan. 10. Transportation departs Studio Channel Islands at 10 a.m., returning to SCI at 3 p.m. Nestled on 1,200 acres at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains, the picturesque campus, originally constructed in 1934 as part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal, is an example of California Mission and Spanish Revival architecture. From the iconic Bell Tower to the magnificent Broome Library, each renovated building merges the old with the new, leaving the most striking architectural and historical aspects intact. Structures originally designed to contain Camarillo State Hospital are now reinvented as open high-tech spaces for learning, research and gathering. Includes a no-host lunch in the Dining Commons and round-trip transportation provided from SCI. Tickets are $85 each and can be purchased online at http://studiochannelislands.org/events/a-season-of-art/ or call 805-383-1368.

    The Art on the Water | Jan. 24, 2018 | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Transportation departs Studio Channel Islands at 10 a.m. and returns to SCI at 3 p.m. Tucked away in nearby Channel Islands Harbor, the Maritime Museum offers a treasure chest of seascape masterpieces from the Dutch Golden Age of the 17th century, works from the 18th and 19th centuries by English romantic painters and French impressionists.  Also included are works by American painters Thomas Hoyne and John Stobart and the largest collection of ship models on the west coast. Round-trip transportation is provided from SCI. Tickets are $125 each and can be purchased online at http://studiochannelislands.org/events/a-season-of-art/ or call 805-383-1368.
