ForImmediate Release; Santa Barbara Calif. – July 11, 2019 New exhibition hosted by open i art space featuring collage artist Rica Coulter. Rica’s lifelong dedication to art started as a child, drawing and painting in Brooklyn, New York. She studied printmaking at the Colorado Springs Fine Art School and received her BFA from the University of Illinois. She returned to New York and studied under master printmakers Lee Chesney and Ronald Robertson. Rica’s art endeavors stretch beyond just printmaking, as she has been a commercial artist, sculptor and art teacher for 39 years.
‘Gathering’ by Rica Coulter
For the past decade she has focused primarily on collages using a variety of materials and imagery to create complex, layered compositions. At 91 years of age, her prolific work simultaneously feels rooted in history while speaking of the future. The immediacy of her images captures the zeitgeist of today’s generation of mixed-media artists.
