Join Board Chair Jennie Buckingham, CEO Linda Braunschweiger and Housing Trust Fund Ventura County’s Board of Directors as we elect new board officers and thank outgoing officers, Steve Boggs, John Fowler, David Moe, Sean Morreale and Donna Sepulveda-Weber.

We’ll also hear from keynote speaker, Michael Anderson, Director of the Housing Trust Fund Project for Community Change as he presents, “Impacting Equity with Local Housing Trust Funds.”

For more than 30 years, the Housing Trust Fund Project has operated as a clearinghouse of information on housing trust funds throughout the country, and provides technical assistance to organizations, agencies, and elected officials working to create or implement these funds. Michael has developed expertise in values based framing and messaging as an integral communications component to advancing housing trust funds and other housing policy. In 2020, he participated in the development of housing messages framed in the national Housing Justice Narrative initiative in conjunction with Race Forward and PolicyLink. Michael has presented on housing messaging research at national and state conferences, and has conducted more than one hundred messaging trainings for housing and homeless advocates. We are honored to welcome him to our virtual stage on January 27th.

Other scheduled activities during this virtual meeting include a presentation of our 2020 Annual Report, the debut of our new Community Impact Note and an introduction to Housing Land Trust Ventura County, a newly created Supporting Nonprofit under Housing Trust Fund Ventura County.

Welcome our newest team members

In November, Tobie Roach joined Housing Trust Fund VC as its Office Administrator. A Ventura County native for over 20 years and an active member of the community, Tobie will make a great advocate for affordable housing in Ventura County.

Tobie has lived in Southern California her entire life and has been a Ventura native for over 20 years. With over a decade of experience working for the City of Ventura in the Parks and Recreation and Community Partnerships Division, Roach will use her administration, human resources and personal assistant skills in her new role with Housing Trust Fund VC. Roach holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art from California State University, Channel Islands and has won various awards in the arts.

“As a longtime resident and steward of the City of Ventura, I have witnessed a growing stress on the community for more affordable housing,” commented Roach. “I’m excited to share my experience to help make positive change.”

Joshua Varela joined Housing Trust Fund VC in July as a two-year Fellow from Lead for America. This public service fellowship aims to bring service-oriented leaders back to their hometowns to help solve their communities’ biggest challenges. Joshua is one of 93 Fellows serving throughout the United States in roles in local governments and nonprofit organizations.

A Ventura County native, Josh attended Rio Mesa High School before graduating Cum Laude from UCLA in June 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Civic Engagement. To fulfill the National Hometown Fellowship requirements, Joshua is splitting his time between two local organizations – Housing Trust Fund Ventura County and the Ventura County Family Justice Center Foundation (VCFJCF).

“I am excited to serve Ventura County by helping to confront the affordable housing shortfall and address the pervasiveness of domestic violence in the community,” noted Varela.
