The Color Of Us – April 9th at 11:30 am: This program is designed to help preschool and young school age children learn about cultural diversity in a fun and interesting way. There will be several books read covering many different cultures and helping them understand while we are different, recipe we are all the same. The books being read are The Color of Us by Karen Katz, Confetti by Pam Mora, A Rainbow of Friends by P.K. Hallinan and Chato’s Kitchen by Soto and Guevara. Some of the books will be read in both Spanish and English. Additionally, there will be an activity room set up to include culturally sensitive learning activities such as cultural doll cutouts whereas the child picks a doll cutout from a variety of shades and puts sticker clothing on them, pipe cleaner tigers where the children make tigers using stripped pipe cleaners of different colors, Me Pockets where the children create their own self-identity using stickers, colors and markers and then the papers are put into a clear folder, foam beading that includes many different shades of colors and shapes to make a bracelet and Playdoh to sculpt a person out of using a variety of shades. Furthermore, we have food take out boxes for the children to decorate to put their take home projects in.
