It is evidence that residents are concerned when a debate is scheduled for candidates for Oxnard Treasurer, which we hadn’t seen much of in past years. The City has gone through terrible financial times. The last audit revealed 107 deficiencies in City systems for management and accounting of funds. Thew Treasurer’s office figured in this with findings that bank reconciliations weren’t done for 14 months, that poor controls existed on multiple ban accounts, wire transfers and payment vouchers. In addition, returns on city funds invested are anemic and funds aren’t even consolidated.
The last Treasurer retired abruptly recently before her term was up, throwing the race wide open, so four candidates have stepped into the breach:
- Al Jones
- Larry Stein
- Phil Molina
- Jonathan Royas
All are impressive in their own way. All have something to contribute. All are invited to participate in a special candidate forum hosted by the Sierra Linda Neighborhood Council
