Free Screening, BlacKkKlansman
In honor of Martin Luther King and civil rights, the Social Concerns Action Committee of the Universalist Unitarian Church will present a free screening of Spike Lee’s film, BlacKkKlansman. Based on a true story, it’s set during the social upheaval of the civil rights struggle of the early 1970’s. Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) becomes the first African-American detective on the Colorado Springs Police Department, but his arrival is greeted with skepticism and open hostility by the department’s rank and file. Undaunted, Stallworth resolves to make a name for himself and a difference in his community. He bravely sets out on a dangerous mission: infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan. Discussion follows.
Screening 6:00 PM, Tuesday, January 22 at UU Church, 740 East Main St, Santa Paula.
