JACKSON AND WILLIAMS TO HOLD STUDENT SEXUAL ASSAULT PANEL DISCUSSION AT VENTURA COLLEGE
VENTURA – State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) and Assemblymember Das Williams (D-Carpinteria) will host a panel discussion on student sexual assault on Thursday, April 16 at Ventura College.
It will be held from 4:00-6:30 p.m. in Guthrie Hall at Ventura College, 4667 Telegraph Rd., Ventura, CA 93003, and will include representatives from area universities and community colleges, nonprofit organizations, law enforcement and the Ventura County District Attorney’s office. It is open to the public.
In 2014, Jackson was a joint author of Senate Bill 967, known nationally as the yes-means-yes bill, landmark legislation making California the first state to define affirmative consent and require institutes of higher education to educate students about consent and sexual assault. This year, Jackson and Williams have introduced bills that aim to improve the ability of California community college districts to discipline students for sexual assault violations and enforce student conduct standards off-campus.
Jackson is chair of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus. She represents the 19th Senate District, which includes all of Santa Barbara County and western Ventura County.
