    Ventura Rebuilds Green Expo, Saturday, June 16

    The City of  Ventura Community Development Department and Environmental Sustainability Division are hosting a Ventura Strong Rebuilds Green Expo on Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 11am-3pm in the Atrium at City Hall, 501 Poli Street, Ventura. This expo is for residents in the city of Ventura who have been severely affected by the Thomas Fire, however all Ventura and Santa Barbara County residents are welcome.

    The event will feature utility rebates and incentives, residential design and building practices that demonstrate green-building approaches and eco-friendly technologies to build energy efficient homes. Residents will learn about renewable energy options, green building materials, outdoor water usage, landscape, and defensible space during the following workshop presentations that will begin at 11:30am:

    • Rebuild Together, Rebuild Well: Energy Efficient Homes
    • Defensible Space Requirements for new Homes, Sustainable and Fire-Resistant Landscaping, and Ocean Friendly Gardens in a Fire Zone
    • Solarize Your Home
    • Making Green Building Affordable: Financing & Incentives

    Attendees may pick-up information from vendor booths and are invited to attend the various workshops at their leisure. Each workshop will be offered twice throughout the event, allowing residents to fit this educational expo into their day.

    Representatives from utilities, non-governmental organizations, and City departments/divisions will be on hand to provide information. Vendors include public utility agencies such as the Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance (VCREA), Southern California Edison (SCE), Southern California Gas, Community Energy Council (CEC), University of California Cooperative Extension, The Ventura County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, Central Coast Green Building Council, and the American Institute of Architects, will be at the event to answer questions and provide important information to residents. 

    In addition, staff from the Ventura City Fire Department, Building and Safety, Environmental Sustainability, and Ventura Water will have information available to educate citizens about the rebuilding process and the ways green building can have a positive impact on the environment.

    Free parking is available in the lot behind City Hall; please use the back entrance of City Hall to access this event. Refreshments will be provided.
