Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On May 1, 2021, at about 7:03 pm, the Thousand Oaks Police Department and the Ventura County Fire Department responded to a solo vehicle injury traffic collision on S/R 23 (Westlake Blvd) approximately ¾ of a mile south of Potrero Rd. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the driver of the vehicle was trapped. Members of the Ventura County Fire Department were able to extricate the driver and learned he had suffered serious injuries. Fire personnel began medically treating the driver but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased is pending notification of next of kin by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The initial investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling northbound on S/R 23 (Westlake Blvd) approximately ¾ of a mile south of Potrero Rd at a high rate of speed as it left the roadway colliding with a utility pole. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Thousand Oaks Police Department Traffic Bureau.
