Simi Valley Police Department – Incident Press Release
On Saturday, April 6, 2019, at approximately 10:33 a.m., Simi Valley Police Department officers responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a 2014 Kawasaki motorcycle and a 2018 Toyota Corolla sedan in the 2900 block of Texas Ave. When the officers arrived on scene, they observed a male subject, later identified as 38-year-old, Simi Valley resident, Jason Char, and his motorcycle lying in the middle of the roadway. The officers also observed a female, 60-year-old, Simi Valley resident, sitting in the driver seat of the car. The car had driver side collision damage.
Ventura County Fire Department and American Rescue Ambulance personnel arrived on scene and checked both parties for injuries. The paramedics pronounced Char’s death at the collision scene. The female driver was transported to a local hospital for moderate injuries. She is currently in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer from the Moorpark Station observed the motorcyclist traveling westbound on Alamo Street near Texas Ave. a short time before the collision. The CHP Officer advised his agency’s Dispatcher to notify Simi Valley Police Department regarding the motorcyclist traveling at an unsafe speed in the area. During this time, Simi Valley Police Department Dispatch received a report of a traffic collision on Texas Ave. It was later determined that Jason Char was the motorcyclist who the CHP Officer reported earlier.
The traffic collision scene was shut down to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for several hours. The Simi Valley Police Department Investigators interviewed witnesses, searched for video evidence, and utilized a 3D laser scanner to map the collision scene. The exact cause of the collision has not been determined, but speed appears to be a factor.
Anyone who has information regarding the collision should contact Traffic Investigator Daniel Kahlbacher at: (805) 583-6180.
