Former School Bus Driver Found Guilty of Lewd Act Upon a Child

Judge Paul Baelly found David Perez (DOB 02/16/59), of Oxnard, guilty of lewd act upon a child.

Between September 2019 and February 2020, Perez used social media to contact the victim, a 15-year-old female. He professed his love for her, requested that she kiss and hug him, and arranged meetings with her, which occurred during his work as a school bus driver. During one meeting, Perez embraced the victim, rubbed her hands in a sensual manner, touched her thigh, and attempted to kiss her on the lips.

In February 2020, the social media messages were discovered and reported. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office was notified and began an investigation which involved electronic forensics, extensive witness interviews, and analysis of social media records. The investigation ultimately confirmed the nature and extent of Perez’s contact with the child victim.

Sentencing is set for April 15, 2021, at 9:00 a.m., in courtroom 27 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Perez faces a maximum of one year in county jail.
