Thousand Oaks, Calif.—Between now and the end of the school year, the Southeast Ventura County YMCA is offering free physical education, dance, art and other enrichment classes designed for children preschool through high school. No YMCA membership is required.
Instructors from the three local branches, Conejo Valley YMCA, Simi Valley Family YMCA and Yarrow Family YMCA, conduct the live classes on Zoom. Youth classes are held throughout the day and early evening, Monday through Friday.
Preschoolers can participate in storybook time, ballet and hip hop dance. Exercise, dance, drawing and cheer classes are geared for elementary school students. Older students can participate in teen acting classes. Additional classes are available. Most are 30 minutes in length.
Following Spring Break, the Y will be launching live and on demand virtual P.E. classes. Curriculum will vary by age and will include a variety of exercises, games and challenges to keep everyone active and engaged.
“YMCA’s youth classes give kids an opportunity to join their friends online for a fun workout or to learn how to draw, dance or take acting classes together,” says Megan Glynn, Chief Development Officer for the YMCA. “It’s a great way for kids to stay connected while staying in shape.”
The full online class schedule and links to individual classes are at www.sevymca.org/onlineclasses. All YMCA facilities are closed due to COVID-19 business and stay-at-home directives.
