Caden Crowell (DOB: 11/19/98), of Camarillo, pled guilty to the first-degree murder of David Smith, age 19, of Thousand Oaks. Crowell also admitted personally using a firearm in the commission of the murder.
On the evening of November 30, 2017, Crowell fired one shot from a vehicle and killed Mr. Smith while he was riding a skateboard down the street. Mr. Smith was shot near the intersection of Calle Diamonte and Avenida del Platino in Newbury Park and died at the scene.
Crowell will be sentenced on October 22, 2020, at 1:30 p.m., in courtroom 14, of the Ventura County Superior Court. Crowell faces a maximum sentence of 50-years-to-life in state prison. He is being held in the Ventura County jail without bail pending the sentencing hearing.
YEP!
A murderer will get a life sentence instead of a death sentence by plea bargaining that primarily benefits the court system and not justice.
