Santa Clarita, CA – Congressman Mike Garcia (R, CA-25) today joined his team of local volunteers in hosting a blood drive to support Santa Clarita’s Henry Mayo Hospital and City of Hope.
In Garcia’s Saturday of Service event for the month of May, the congressman led the way, donating blood along with a group of nearly 50 committed volunteers at his SCV campaign headquarters. Today’s donations will be used to treat patients at Henry Mayo Hospital and City of Hope.
“With the pandemic causing a severe nationwide blood shortage in our hospitals and blood banks, it is more important than ever that we support those in need with our donations,” said Garcia. “Giving blood is an incredible way to make sure people suffering from severe health conditions can continue to receive the treatment they need, and I am proud of what Team Garcia was able to do here today to support that goal.”
Today’s blood drive follows last month’s Saturday of Service food drive, in which Team Garcia delivered over 1,000 pounds of much-needed food items to the SCV Food Pantry.
This event comes as the latest in a long line of efforts from Garcia and his team aimed at supporting the local community, especially as California families have had to cope with the effects of the pandemic and lockdowns. With charity as a core tenet of Garcia’s campaign, his volunteers have hosted a number of community events in addition to the congressman’s personal donations to local charities, including organizations supporting our local law enforcement heroes, veterans, underprivileged students and folks battling cancer.
