News Release
On February 28 at 8:52am, the Ventura City Fire was dispatched to a report of a natural gas
line leak. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered that a construction backhoe had ruptured a 2” high
pressure gas main while digging a trench in the street. Firefighters had residents for 3 blocks
downwind of the rupture shelter in place, closing all their doors and windows, to safeguard against the
escaping gas. Gas company personnel were called to the scene to make repairs and restore gas
service. Fire Department personnel remained on scene with fire protection hose lines to support the
repair operation. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
