Governor Gavin Newsom And Courageous California Legislative Leaders Make The Grade As Champions Of Student Success

Today, January 19^th, the Campaign for College Opportunity will honor seven California leaders at the 2021 Legislative Dean’s List Reception in a virtual celebration. The Legislative Dean’s List recognizes and honors state leaders whose efforts were fundamental to guiding and securing student-centered policies aimed at increasing college access, affordability, and student success in 2021.

The seven honorees have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to closing racial equity gaps, increasing college opportunity, and fostering a higher education system that truly serves all Californians.

WHAT: The Campaign will host a virtual, one-hour celebration acknowledging the exemplary efforts of some of the state’s top legislative leaders.

WHO: The Campaign for College Opportunity and the following honorees:

• California Governor Gavin Newsom – Distinction in Higher Education Vision & Investment 
• Assemblymember Marc Berman (AD-24) – Distinction in Transforming Transfer
• Lorena Gonzalez, former Assemblymember (AD-80) – Distinction in Courageous Pandemic Response
• Senator Ben Hueso (SD-40) – Distinction in Providing Pipelines to College Opportunity
• Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (AD-44) – Distinction in Statewide Higher Education Leadership
• Senator Connie Leyva (SD-20) – Distinction in Expanding College Access for All
• Jeanice Warden-Washington, Chief Consultant for the Assembly Higher Education Committee – Distinction in Student-Centered Policy Design
