BYD (Build Your Dreams) announced two members of the Harbor Trucking Association, GSC Logistics, serving the Port of Oakland, and Golden State Express, serving the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, are putting BYD’s second generation electric trucks to work hauling heavy freight. GSC Logistics and Golden State Express each received two zero-emission second generation BYD 8TT Class 8 trucks. The trucks will be put to work in drayage operations.
“We applaud the Harbor Trucking Association for supporting the transition to zero emission truck technology,” said John Gerra, BYD Director of Business Development, Electric Trucks. “HTA members GSC Logistics and Golden State Express are enterprising companies, and their use of battery electric trucks will move the industry forward.”
GSC Logistics has been operating a first generation BYD 8TT for more than 18 months. The truck, which has already logged thousands of miles in heavy-duty port operations, has proven to be a hardworking and reliable platform.
By incorporating customer and driver feedback from GSC Logistics and other users operating the first generation trucks, BYD built upon this proven platform and designed its second generation vehicles with more power, higher torque, increased range, and improved comfort for drivers.
The second generation BYD 8TT deliveries were made possible by the California Air Resources Board’s California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.
All three ports are exploring zero emission technologies. The development and use of zero emission technologies will help the ports reach their air quality goals and greatly reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions.
