OXNARD, Calif. – The National Weather Service is forecasting strong and potentially damaging Santa Ana winds and extreme fire weather conditions for Ventura County and the Oxnard area beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 11 p.m. and continuing on Thursday, Oct. 31 through 6 p.m. The peak of the wind event is expected to be on Wednesday, where wind gusts of 50 to 70 miles per hour are possible.
The combination of high winds and very low humidity makes the local brush and vegetation extremely receptive to fire. Public safety officials use the term “Red Flag Warning” to alert the public to the extreme fire danger caused by these conditions.
Residents should remain alert during these conditions, use extreme caution and avoid any activities that could ignite fires. The use of fireplaces, fire pits, bar-b-ques, outside candles and torches are highly discouraged. Avoid smoking and the use of power tools in open or brush areas. Watch for sparking or downed powerlines, branches and blowing debris. If you see smoke, fire or any dangerous conditions call 911 immediately.
Oxnard officials are monitoring the situation and working closely with Ventura County and the National Weather Service at this time.

FUERTES VIENTOS Y EXTREMA ADVERTENCIA DE BANDERA ROJA
OXNARD, Calif. – El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional pronostica fuertes vientos de Santa Ana y potencialmente condiciones climáticas extremas para el condado de Ventura y el área de Oxnard a partir del martes 29 de octubre a partir de las 11 p.m. y continúan hasta el jueves 31 de octubre hasta las 6 p.m. Se espera que el pico del evento de fuertes vientos sea el miércoles, donde ráfagas de fuertes vientos de 50 a 70 millas por hora son posibles.
La combinación de fuertes vientos y muy baja humedad hace que las zonas secas y la vegetación local sean extremadamente receptivos al fuego. Los funcionarios de seguridad pública usan el término “Advertencia de bandera roja” para alertar al público sobre el peligro extremo de incendio causado por estas condiciones.
Los residentes deben permanecer alertas durante estas condiciones, tener extrema precaución y evitar cualquier actividad que pueda encender incendios.
