KidSTREAM Appoints Three New Directors to its Board

CAMARILLO, Calif.– KidSTREAM, Ventura County’s children’s museum, which is committed to providing hands-on exhibits and programs based on science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and math (STREAM), announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Wendy Acevedo-Solis, Iris Ilao, and Michael Jump.

“We are incredibly honored to have Wendy, Iris, and Mike join a team that is committed to bringing kidSTREAM to fruition; We are equally thrilled that each new board director brings strength and passion to their commitment to serve all the children of Ventura County” said Michael Shanklin, kidSTREAM’s Executive Director.

Wendy Acevedo-Solis brings a wealth of experience in project management, event planning, marketing and administration. Acevedo-Solis and her husband own and operate A&W Marketing & Consulting; she also works as a Technical Account Manager for Yardi Systems, through which she organized a nonprofit fair highlighting kidSTREAM as a designated recipient of funding.  Museums have been a passion of Wendy’s since childhood; a love that has been passed on to her children. In addition to her professional experience, Acevedo-Solis brings a depth of nonprofit understanding having served as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Camarillo AYSO.

Iris Ilao is a Wealth Manager and the Director of Financial Planning at Powell Financial Group. In addition to bringing her organizational and leadership skills to kidSTREAM’s board, Iris brings vast experience in the nonprofit sector: Working as an ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters and volunteering for The Ronald McDonald House, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission and The Conejo Valley Village. Ilao is also a member of 100 Women Who Care Conejo Valley: An organization of women who share a common desire to give back to their local community. A foster mom of two siblings, Iris has become an advocate for foster care, encouraging others to join her in providing safe and loving homes for our county’s most vulnerable children.

Michael Jump has served Ventura County as Chief Deputy District Attorney since 2015. Jump was sworn into service in 2003, and has been an advocate and champion for Victim and Community services throughout his tenure. Under his leadership, the Family Justice Center was opened in late 2019, which is a multi-agency partnership between local government and community-based organizations integrating services at one location for victims of domestic violence, assault, child and other forms of abuse. Jump also serves as a board member of the California Crime Victim’s Assistance Association, is chair of numerous local committees, and is a member of the Community Corrections Partnership–Ventura County, representing victims’ rights and interests.

Founded in 2016, kidSTREAM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to create an engaging environment for children and families to explore, play and discover; inspiring them to become critical thinkers, innovators, and life-long learners.
