Attention, Tutors
Laubach has cancelled the April and May Board meetings and Tutor Talks, plus the New Tutor Workshop scheduled for May 2. When the May newsletter is sent out, we’ll let you know about possible future meeting dates.
In the meantime, here are some encouraging comments from tutors still working with their students:
Marta says “My student and I haven’t missed any time together because we are using Skype-to-Skype chats (which are free) and it works on any computer or smartphone. My “other” hours are greater than usual because I’ve spent time learning to Skype, and copying and sending files in a way that my student can have the right materials such as worksheets or stories.”Â
“I still work 2x a week in half hour sessions via What’s App with my student in Italy.”
Joyce says “I am staying in contact with my students via phone calls, email, and messenger. Some are in America, but others are in Italy, France, Albania, etc.”
Wendy says “I am watching YouTube videos learning to use Zoom. Zoom contact is free if it is used 40 minutes or less at a time. Also, since most school teachers are utilizing “distance learning” with their students, I am contacting some teachers at the school where I used to work for information and ideas.”
As a courtesy, New Readers Press is offering free access to tutors to their weekly newsletter through June 30. Just type newsforyouonline.com and enter the password 22667F. They have free printable resources such as a Census issue and a Voting Guide issue.
And tutors, please email [email protected] with your stories and experiences of working with your students during these challenging months – we’ll publish them in the May newsletter, thanks. |
