I could not figure out why a slate of three challenger candidates would need more than $14,000 to run to be a Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District Board Member, a position that pays $105 for the monthly meetings.
Then I remembered that old adage, “Follow the money,” so I checked their filings to see where all that money came from. Sure enough, about $13,500 was donated to them by SEIU, the union that represents the District’s employees.
Personally, I don’t want the union to be in complete charge of our recreation and parks. I plan to vote for the three incumbents, who have been doing a good job: Mark Malloy, Mike Mishler and Dr. Neal Dixon.

What’s your take on Citizens United?
Is it ok to NOT know who is giving their money to candidates and political operatives?
At least SEIU is transparent about who gets their money, even if you do not approve of how they spend it.
