Simi Valley Police Department – Incident Press Release
A Simi Valley Police Officer was conducting extra patrol in the area of the Wood Ranch Trailhead due to recent vehicle burglaries in the area. He noticed a man sitting in his vehicle and conducted a records check on the car in which the man was sitting. The vehicle was registered to Chad Ricketts (24 Years-old, a Simi Valley resident) who was on probation for resisting arrest with search terms.
The officer approached the vehicle and spoke with Ricketts. Eventually, the officer informed Ricketts he was going to exercise his probation terms and had him exit the car. As Ricketts exited the vehicle, he began to fight with the officer. The officer requested emergency assistance from other officers in the area. During the incident, the officer tased Ricketts twice and it was ineffective. As the incident progressed, the officer and Ricketts ended up wrestling on the ground.
Assisting officers arrived on scene and were able to help the original officer take Ricketts into custody. The officer and Ricketts suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Ricketts was arrested for Penal Code Section 243(c) (2) – Felony Battery on a Peace Officer and taken to the hospital for medical clearance. He was then transported and booked at the Ventura County Main Jail.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is authorized to release the booking photograph of Ricketts, per established policy.
Grateful for our Simi Valley and Ventura County LEO’s…
