VENTURA, California – District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that Martin Valdez Arias (DOB 01/29/93), of Ventura, has been charged in an attack on a woman who was a stranger to Arias. The attack occurred during the noon hour on a bike path bordering Ventura Community Park in Ventura.
The complaint charges Arias with a felony offense of false imprisonment by violence, and attempted sexual battery, a misdemeanor. The complaint also alleges that Arias falsely imprisoned the victim for his own sexual gratification and that he has previously been convicted of a “strike” offense.
Arias appeared in court for arraignment on September 9, 2021. The case was continued to September 15, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 14 of the Ventura County Superior Court for arraignment and a motion to detain him pending trial. Arias is currently in custody with bail set at $500,000.
