The Biden administration, through the Health and Human Services Administration(HHS) is blocking majority Red states from using more monoclonal antibody (MA) treatment. The MA treatments, shown to be effective as a therapeutic fighting COVID-19, is used in Florida, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Louisiana to lower its hospitalization rates. Many Americans would have succumbed to a COVID-19 attack without the treatment.
Under a “Public Health Emergency,” Biden has authorized an updated allocation of monoclonal antibody treatments through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The new allocation format effectively throttles the use of more of the life saving treatment on a State by State basis. HHS will be the decider of weekly allocations.
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) also makes a monoclonal antibodies product, Sotroimab is not on federal purchase orders affected by this new Biden Administration strategy to force Americans into the vaccinated group. Sotroimab became available in May 2021 under an EUA and recommended by the NIH for the Delta variant. States can use COVID-19 relief funds to make bulk purchases directly from GSK as HHS is not controlling Sotroimab under the new apportionment schedule.
HHS, with this new order, will literally control access to antibody therapies for COVID-19 through the Federal purchasing programs. HHS is headed by Xavier Becarra, an extremely Leftist former Attorney General from California who is not a doctor. One area of expertise that presidents have not often tapped for the head of HHS is medicine. Only three secretaries have had medical training, and all have been Republicans.
Americans in every State should be aware of the Biden Administration’s decision to create this chokepoint to control the distribution of COVID-19 therapeutics. Support access to fellow citizens, friends and family of all political persuasions for the overall health of all Americans.
