On 07/07/2020, at approximately 1845 hours, deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Headquarters Patrol station and Camarillo Patrol station responded to the unincorporated area of Ventura County in the community of Nyeland Acres, reference a fight occurring in the 2600 Block of Ventura Blvd. Upon their arrival, patrol deputies determined a group of individuals arrived at a residence in Nyeland Acres and a fight ensued. Many of the subjects involved in the fight had left the area prior to patrol deputies arriving on-scene and a subsequent investigation was initiated by the Sheriff’s Gang Unit.
Detectives were able to obtain video surveillance footage of the incident. The video surveillance footage depicted several of the involved individuals armed with metal baseball bats and showed them using the baseball bats as weapons during the fight. The video depicted a juvenile male striking an adult male in the back of the head with a baseball bat. The victim was facing away from the adult juvenile when he was struck in the head and was unable to defend himself. The video also depicted an adult male, later identified as Isaac Roman, chasing after an adult male victim with a metal baseball bat. As the victim was running away from Isaac Roman, the video shows Isaac Roman swinging the baseball bat at the victim’s head several times.
Through the investigation, it was determined both victims sustained serious bodily injury after being struck in the head with the metal baseball bats and were treated for their injuries at local hospitals. Detectives were also able to determine a confrontation involving the same two groups occurred earlier that same day at The Collection at RiverPark in Oxnard.
Through a collaborative effort with the Oxnard Police Department, it was determined two 17 year old male juvenile suspects conspired together and battered a male adult victim in a secluded parking lot at The Collection at RiverPark. It was determined the male adult victim lost consciousness during the battery and sustained serious bodily injury. The adult male victim also had his cell phone taken from him by the male juveniles before they fled the scene. As a result of this investigation, Isaac Roman was arrested for being in violation of PC 245 (a)(1) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Both male juveniles were arrested for being in violation of PC 182 – Conspiracy, PC 243 (d) – Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury, and PC 211 – Robbery.
