Simi Valley Police Department – Incident Press Release
In late August of this year, an organized retail theft ring victimized the CVS store in the 3900 block of Cochran. During this single theft, the suspects stole over $1000 worth of makeup, hair products, and over the counter medications. Based on information obtained during this theft, the Simi Valley Police Department began an investigation.
Over the next 60 days, property crime detectives were able to identify the main suspect as Derrick Taylor (28 years) from Los Angeles, Ca. Taylor had an extensive criminal history and was even out on bail for a similar crime at the time he committed the Simi Valley Theft. During the lengthy investigation, Taylor and his associates demonstrated a pattern of criminal behavior consistent with being part of an organized retail theft ring. Through surveillance and other investigative means, it was discovered that Taylor and his crew stole merchandise from approximately 58 stores, targeting mostly Walgreens, CVS, and Riteaid locations.
On November 19, 2019, Taylor and his criminal partners traveled to the city of Bakersfield to continue their criminal activity. During this one day trip, Taylor and his crew victimized 13 stores stealing approximately $5000 worth of over the counter medication and beauty produces. With the assistance of the Ventura County Auto Theft Taskforce and the California Highway Patrol, a surveillance was established on Taylor as he returned to the Los Angeles area from his crime spree. Taylor along with three other suspects were stopped and arrested in the city of Hollywood. The additional suspects were identified as Andrew Clark 29 years, Chantinaya McClelland 29 years, and Antonisha Macknight 27 years all from the Los Angeles Area.
At the time of the arrest, all of the stolen products from the day’s crime spree were recovered. All four suspects were later transported to the Ventura County Main Jail where they were booked for violations of 490.4PC- Organized Retail Theft and 487 PC- Grand Theft.
