OXNARD, Calif. – The City of Oxnard collected more than 206 tons of bulky trash over four weekends in March as 1,432 Oxnard residents took advantage of the free Neighborhood Bulky Item Drop-Off Day events. Hosted in partnership with Caltrans, the community events help prevent the illegal dumping of furniture and other trash in Oxnard’s streets, parks and alleyways.
The new Neighborhood Bulky Item Drop-Off Day program created four regions for drop-off events that allowed every neighborhood in the City an opportunity to dispose of old mattresses, damaged furniture and other large, bulky items for free throughout March.
“We’re excited that so many residents used the Drop-Off Days to clean out their homes and dispose of their unwanted items,” said Mayor John C. Zaragoza, who also volunteered at the Region 2 event in Via Marina Park. “Thank you to all the City staff and volunteers who made it easy for residents to participate. Residents pulled up their cars, and then staff quickly unloaded everything from their vehicle! It was a very successful program.”
“The City is doing everything it can to clean up the illegal dumping,” said City Manager Alexander Nguyen. “However, we also need our residents to meet us in these efforts. This is not an area we can police our way out of. We need all residents to take pride in our community and stop using our alleys, streets and parks as dumping areas.”
The City continues its efforts to cut down on illegal dumping by hosting another City-wide free Drop-Off Day event on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Del Norte Recycling Center (111 S Del Norte Blvd, Oxnard, CA 93030).
