Gary Daniel (DOB 09/21/1978) of Oxnard, was found guilty of possessing child pornography at a time when he was required to register as a sex offender. Following a five-day jury trial, Judge Ryan Wright also found that Daniel had previously served a prison term, rendering the defendant eligible for an enhanced custodial sentence.
Daniel was released from state prison in Missouri in July 2018. In August 2018, Daniel moved from Missouri to Oxnard and was placed on parole. On November 30, 2018, Daniel’s parole officer and members of the Santa Paula Police Department searched his residence to ensure he was complying with his parole conditions. During this search, Daniel’s parole officer found child pornography on his cellular telephone. A subsequent forensic search of the cellular phone, done by the Southern California High Tech Task Force, confirmed Daniel possessed child pornography on his phone. Daniel faces a maximum custodial term of 7 years at his sentencing scheduled for November 6, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom 25. The prosecution and conviction in this case was completed by the District Attorney’s Office Fraud and Technology Crimes Unit with assistance from the Santa Paula Police Department.
